Masaya is known as the “City of Flowers” as Ruben Dario baptized it. It is Nicaragua’s folklore and crafts cradle. Just at 26 kilometers from Managua, Masaya is well known for its beautiful hammocks, ceramics, carved wood works, embroideries dresses and tapestries.
Every thursday night the crafts market carries out a folkloric festival known as “Verbenas de Masaya” that allows you to enjoy some of the best of Nicaraguan Culture.
The local carnival known as San Jeronimo takes place on September the 30th. Monimbo is the main indigenous town in the country; lots of artisans work and live there. Before you reach the city, you will find the Masaya Volcano National Park.
