Designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, Ometepe Island is a must-see in Nicaragua. This 4-day tour includes one day in Ometepe and one in the Colonial City of Granada, and departs from and arrives at Peñas Blancas, the border with Costa Rica.
The tour begins in Peñas Blancas, the border with Costa Rica, where you and your luggage will be collected and transported to the island of Ometepe for a one-day tour via a ferry, departing from the town of San Jorge. The ride is approximately 45 minutes long. You will arrive on Ometepe Island, where one of our guides will be waiting to take you to Hotel Villa Paraíso. After check-in, you will be transported to a magical place: Ojo de Agua.
Located right in the center of Ometepe Island, between the two volcanoes that comprise the island, Ojo de Agua is a natural spring pool filled with crystal-clear water from an underground river that flows from the Maderas Volcano. Ojo de Agua’s warm crystalline waters (on average 25°C / 77°F) are believed to have healing properties, because of their untouched volcanic source. Surrounded by nature, a swim in Ojo de Agua is a wonderfully unique experience. After your time at Ojo de Agua, you will be transported back to Hotel Villa Paraíso, where you will enjoy a nice dinner and rest for the night.
You will have breakfast at Hotel Villa Paraíso and after check-out you will be transported to the ferry that takes you back to the port of San Jorge. Once in San Jorge, our vehicle will transfer you to the city of Granada, where you´ll check in at the beautiful Colonial Hotel, La Gran Francia, your home for the night. (With an option to have dinner at the hotel.)
You will breakfast at Hotel La Gran Francia and will then start your third day, discovering the Colonial City of Granada, the oldest Colonial city on the American Continent. Granada was founded by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba in 1524 and is now one of Nicaragua's greatest attractions.
At the designated time, you’ll be off on a traditional horse carriage tour of Granada’s main attractions. This tour will introduce you to all the most important sites: San Francisco Convent; Sandino Park; Granada’s Old Hospital; La Pólvora Fortress; Xalteva Park; La Merced Church and Granada’s Malecón.
After the carriage tour, you will be taken to Lake Nicaragua, Central America's largest lake and home to 365 small islands called isletas. From there, you will board a boat and enjoy all the magnificent flora and fauna of the area, as well as spectacular views of Mombacho Volcano.
After the boat tour, you will be transported back to Hotel La Gran Francia, where you will spend the night and have the option to have dinner. You’ll have the rest of the evening to enjoy the city on your own or book a mini tour with us.
Breakfast is included with your stay at La Gran Francia. After check-out, you will be transported back to Peñas Blancas, the border with Costa Rica.
